Rodun kasvatus ja jalostus / Breeding principles of the breed
Noudatamme kasvattajana mm. ADBA:n (American Dog Breeders Association) eettisiä ohjeita kasvattajille
(Breeders Code of Ethics).
linjajalostuksesta. Kennelimme jalostusperiaatteena on nimenomaan linjajalostus. Tästä syystä jalostuksessa joudutaan aina silloin tällöin käyttämään lähisukulaisia vahvistamaan linjaa. Hyvänä linjajalostusesimerkkinä on maailmalla upean Chinaman -verilinjan ylläpitäminen.
The main breeding principle of our kennel is that we use only physically and psychologically healthy dogs for breeding. The main goal is that only healthy, good-natured puppies are born as a result of the stepping so domestic dogs as suitable for canine athletics. We mainly breed working dogs, not show dogs.
We follow as a breeder e.g. ADBA (American Dog Breeders Association) Ethics Guidelines for Breeders (Breeders Code of Ethics). We also follow the Finnish Kennel Club's breeding principles on the scale that they are suitable for apbt line breeding.
It is very important to us that the dogs we use for breeding are of good character and get along with humans. We do not use a dog in breeding that shows the slightest tenderness and/or aggression towards humans. However, as a breeder, we cannot guarantee that the dog will, as an adult, get along with all other dogs.
It is not our principles to commission puppies randomly with some male and female. When designing a litter, based on the pedigrees, as well as the characteristics of the dogs, we choose which female and male can be used for mating. In this case, we will be able to determine in advance what characteristics the puppies may have depending on the intensity of the line breeding. Nor do we use a male in the process of mating about whom we know nothing. Pure-bred and pedigree alone does not guarantee good dogs. Also, we do not use a male in breeding whose pedigree does not clearly show signs of line breeding. The breeding principle of our kennel is precisely line breeding. For this reason, every now and then in breeding it is necessary to use close relatives to reinforce the line. A good example of line breeding is the maintenance of the Chinaman bloodline that is great around the world. A lot of our dogs also have a powerful Chinaman lineage and that's what we will cherish in breeding. Our breeding aims to make
puppies suitable as both domestic and working dogs.
Although the aim of breeding is to obtain certain characteristics of puppies from the mother and the male used for mating, the genetic genesis of dogs is not that simple. The breeding of dogs and genetic inheritance began to be of such interest that Helena started studying a course on dog breeding and genome. Genome and genes are a very complex issue. It is commonly believed that hip dysplasia in dogs is automatically inherited to offspring. Fortunately, the genetic lineage does not work that way. The same disease must be present in more puppies in the same litter and also in the family history of the parents.
In this case, the disease can be called possibly hereditary. However, long-term studies in numerous dogs are needed to define hereditary diseases in dogs/breeds. There may possibly be up to 1 puppy in a litter with completely different genes than other siblings, but this is extremely rare. Often a disease for example allergy might just be a gene mutation, not a hereditary disease.
The bones of all our dogs have not been X-rayed yet, but X-rays will be performed in the
future.
We have not been in a hurry with x-rays because due to lack of time we have not been able
to start any dog hobby with our dogs, although we are very interested in the subject, and our breeding goal is working dogs.
